What You Need To Know About The AveoTSD
The aveoTSD is a tongue stabilization device that, according to the official product website, is ‘clinically proven to treat problem snoring and mild to moderate OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea).’
We have looked at quite a few TSDs since the first ones hit the market a while back, and as a general rule, we really like them. They’re not so different from mandibular advancement devices, really, except that they tend to be a bit less invasive and are a lot smaller.
But they are pretty much just as effective (at least, the best ones are), so they offer a lot of benefits and upsides that other stop-snoring devices fail to deliver.
But is the aveoTSD a good example of a TSD? Is it going to be effective? Is it worth the money? And more importantly—should you consider buying one to help you treat snoring and obstructive sleep apnea?
These are the most important questions that you can ask yourself about any stop snoring device, and in this review, we’re going to answer them.
Here is what you need to know.
AveoTSD: Product Classification & Instructions For Use
This product is classified as a TSD (tongue stabilization device).
To use the product, you insert it into your mouth and use the suction technology to hold your tongue in a forward position within the device. There are more specific instructions for how to accomplish this included with the device… but this gives you a general idea of how it works.
You do not have to fit this device, and it is a ‘one size fits most’ design. This product is said to comfortably fit over 80% of adults, though there are also small and larger sizes available through sleep, dental, and medical clinics where you can be sized for them.
As for care and maintenance, this device will usually last about 12 months… which is pretty awesome. You do, however, have to clean it with warm water and store it in the included container after each use.
How Does This Product Work?
The aveoTSD works like pretty much every other TSD on the market… and in-general, TSDs also work very similarly to how mandibular advancement devices are designed to work.
Most snoring is cause by soft palate vibration, which occurs when the soft, fleshy tissues of the upper-airway partially (or completely, in cases of OSA) block the airflow. As a result, the air ‘vibrates’ these tissues as it passes… and the vibrations are what cause the snoring sounds.
But this problem can be prevented by keeping the upper airway opened up, which is what this devices seeks to accomplish. It accomplishes this by holding the tongue forward during sleep, which helps to keep the airway open and taught.
This, in turn, is supposed to prevent most, if not all, of the vibrations that occur while sleeping.
AveoTSD: Clinical Background And FDA Approval
This product was said to have been clinically tested over several years. Many websites list this product as being FDA approved, but we actually didn’t think that it was… until we found it on the website, in the section of the site where you actually buy the product. It says, in this part of the site, that it is FDA approved and is a Class 1 medical device.
Note: See ‘Scam Complaint’ section below for a full run-down of our thoughts on this.
Can There Be Any Side Effects?
Your tongue may feel bruised or sore at first. Make sure the device is not too tight on your tongue. If it is, discontinue use. Most of the time, however, side effects like this only occur when you are first getting used to it. After time, your mouth will likely adapt to using it, and you will not experience side effects anymore.
Other side effects could include a dry mouth, drooling, and/or minor mouth irritation.
On the official website, they say to contact your doctor if soreness persists. Your tongue should not ‘stay’ sore after using the device. If it does, it could be a sign that something is wrong.
How Much Does It Cost?
You can buy the aveoTSD for $137 from the Canadian aveoTSD website. This is actually a pretty expensive price—even more expensive than the price asked for the Good Morning Snore Solution, which is our highest-recommended anti snoring product on the market. The Good Morning Snore Solution is available for about $105… so this device is certainly more expensive, which is a bit of a downside.
We have also reviewed clinically tested MADs that were literally half the price of this product… so yeah. The higher cost was certainly not something that we liked.
What Do We Know About The Company Behind The AveoTSD?
What Can Users Expect From This Product?
If you buy this product and attempt to use it, you can expect for it to take a little while for your mouth to acclimate to it. It can take a few days for the soreness to wear off… though you should not continue to use it if it really hurts your tongue, or if soreness persists for more than a few days.
It can also take a little while to get used to sleeping with something in your mouth. So that is also something to keep in mind.
Our Video Review
Does This Product Require A Doctor’s Involvement Or A Prescription?
It is not 100% clear if you need a prescription to order this product in the US… but other review sites seem to be saying that you do. For Canadians, it can just be ordered from the product website.
Our Verdict
We liked a lot of things about this product, but there are a number of reasons for why we would not recommend it as a first-choice. To be honest, it doesn’t seem to offer anything that the Good Morning Snore Solution doesn’t… except that the aveoTSD is more expensive and doesn’t come with a money back guarantee.
So for these reasons, we could never really recommend it as a first-option.
But, if you try other products and they don’t work for you, this could be an option to consider.
